Robôs construtores voadores
Um futuro no qual a mão-de-obra da construção civil é formada por um contingente de robôs voadores. Bom, certamente seria uma maneira mais eficiente, e talvez menos barulhenta, de incentivar a evolução da infraestrutura das cidades. E tal futuro já está sendo colocado em prática, a começar por uma instalação arquitetônica desenvolvida pelos arquitetos europeus Fabio Gramazio, Matthias Kohler e o pesquisador Raffaello D’Andre, a primeira a ser construída por uma equipe de robôs voadores.
Com o objetivo de discutir o papel da arquitetura moderna em plena era digital, o trio desenvolveu uma pequena equipe de robôs, que mais parecem helicópteros de brinquedo. As máquinas, cada uma com quatro hélices, ergueram uma espécie de prédio, com 6 metros de altura e 3,5 metros de diâmetro.
A estrutura foi formada por 1.500 blocos de espuma, que foram perfurados por garras localizadas na parte inferior da máquina, para melhor transporte do material. E para conseguir alocar um bloco sobre o outro, o robô praticamente arremessa o material com certa força e velocidade no local desejado. Assim, os blocos não ficam à mercê de turbulências no ar que possam removê-los do lugar correto.
O projeto, intitulado Flight Assembled Architecture, começou a ser desenvolvido no começo de 2011. A obra está em exposição até o dia 19 de fevereiro do ano que vem no centro cultural FRAC Centre, em Orleans, França.

O Pálido Ponto Azul
Pale Blue Dot, é um filme da palebluefilms, sobre texto de Carl Sagan, narrado por ele próprio.
Tanto o texto como a seleção das imagens (retiradas dos mais diversos filmes) é excelente, e talvez vê-lo seja uma boa maneira de começar o ano e repensar algumas coisas, principalmente como as vezes podemos ser egoístas e arrogantes.
Há uma frase do filme que acho especialmente importante, que será devidamente melhor compreendida quando virem o video e o seu contexto.
"Talvez não haja melhor demonstração da tolice das vaidades humanas, do que essa imagem distante de nosso pequeno mundo. Ela enfatiza nossa responsabilidade de tratarmos melhor uns aos outros, e de preservar e estimar o único lar que nós conhecemos. O pálido ponto azul."
Um 2012 maravilhoso depende mais de nós mesmos do que qualquer outra coisa.

Panoramic Ball Camera
Uma bola de espuma equipada com 36 pequenas câmeras, que tiram fotos simultaneamente quando ela atinge seu ponto mais alto ao ser arremessada, permite a criação de imagens panorâmicas totalmente esféricas.
O gadget, que ainda não está à venda, também impede o efeito “ghosting”. Este efeito ocorre quando as imagens obtidas em momentos distintos são “coladas” para criar o panorama e uma pessoa, por exemplo, se moveu.
Conhecida como ‘Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera’, a bola de espuma foi criada por Jonas Pfeil na Technische Universitat Berlin e será apresentada durante a conferência SIGGRAPH Asia em Hong Kong.
A Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera pode ser útil, por exemplo, para um alpinista no topo de uma montanha, para um casal vendo o por do sol na praia ou para um turista em uma praça cheia de pessoas, já que ela permite capturar a essência da cena de forma que as câmeras convencionais não permitem.
O corpo da Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera foi feito com uma impressora 3D, utiliza uma bateria de lítio e seu acelerômetro detecta quando ela atingiu seu ponto mais alto, fazendo com que o micro controlador ligue as câmeras.
As imagens obtidas podem então ser transferidas através de um cabo USB para um computador, onde é possível visualizá-las.
Pfeil e seus colegas estão procurando por investidores ou parceiros interessados em ajudar no desenvolvimento do projeto, possibilitando assim a criação de uma versão comercial da Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera’.
